Blogger Commits Heinous Crime

Yahoo profile picture of a child murderer.

Check this out at The Atheist Mama via Pharyngula. There is a link to his blog. Look at it before it is taken down. This sick basturd was apparently off his meds.

PURCELL, Okla. - The man accused of killing a 10-year-old neighbor girl for an elaborate plan to eat human flesh joked about cannibalism on his online diary, discussed the effects of not taking his anti-depression medication and mentioned “dangerously weird” fantasies.

All he wanted in life, Kevin Ray Underwood wrote in his blog, was “to be able to live like a normal person.”

People who knew Underwood described him Sunday as a quiet, “boring” and seemingly trustworthy young man. His mother who lived across town called him a “wonderful boy.”

The 26-year-old grocery store stocker was arrested Friday. Investigators searched his apartment after he aroused their suspicions at a checkpoint, and found a large plastic tub in a bedroom closet. According to a police affidavit, he confessed that he killed Jamie Rose Bolin, telling FBI agents: “Go ahead and arrest me. She is in there. I chopped her up.”

Jamie’s unclothed body was inside the tub, along with a towel used to soak up blood, officials said. Police said that, while there were deep saw marks on the girl’s neck, she had not been dismembered.

Elaborate plan
“Regarding a potential motive,” Purcell Police Chief David Tompkins said Saturday, “this appears to have been part of a plan to kidnap a person, rape them, torture them, kill them, cut off their head, drain the body of blood, rape the corpse, eat the corpse then dispose of the organs and bones.”

Investigators found meat tenderizer and barbecue skewers that he planned to use on the body, McClain County District Attorney Tim Kuykendall said in this small community 40 miles south of Oklahoma City.

Underwood, who is to be formally charged with first-degree murder Monday, lived alone in an apartment downstairs from the one where Jamie lived with her father.

Authorities believe Underwood killed the girl Wednesday, when she disappeared after going to a library, by beating and smothering her.

Underwood’s family was shocked.'

Excerpts from his blog can be found at The Insomnia Report as well.

Here is what a Yahoo search of his Yahoo ID yields.

Here is some insight on his faith:
From: subspecies23@aol.com (SubSpecies23)

"My parents think/thought that I'm a/an Christian.
and most of my friends presume I'm a/an agnostic. Actually I hardly have any
friends, all the friends I do have know I'm a SubGenius. Most of my coworkers
are afraid of me, they seem to think I'm the spawn of Satan.
(Of course I don't really believe in "Bob".
Secretly I'm kind of a/an fill-in-the-blank.)"

This message board makes him appear as normal as anyone.

But in February 2002 he posted this:

From: subspecies23@aol.comsucks (Rev. Underwood)

I got to thinking yesterday, I wonder if people themselves are contributing to
global warming. I mean, you'd think with several billion people on the planet
all that combined body heat would eventually raise the temperature a little,
not much though, but maybe a couple of degrees. My solution to Global Warming?
Kill Everyone. That's my solution for everything though. There are too many
people on this planet, we need more death. Anything that kills people is fine
with me. 2000 something people dead in the WTC? Good. No one I know was
there, so why should I care? We need a few more bombings and natural
disasters.

Here he admits to being a 23 year old virgin. That was 3 years ago.

What a sicko he is, to do what he did. If he is an Atheist, he didn't write much about it from what I've seen.

I'm thankful I didn't make his blogroll.

  1. The interesting thing about looking at his picture:~ If I had seen his picture before knowing anything about his history etc, I would have just thought of him as a young freckle-faced american; a little too serious looking perhaps, but nothing out of the ordinary. But people's faces seem to take on the characteristics or attributes of "your perception" of them once you know something about them. Consequently, he appears menacing as I am aware of his history and actions. I guess the real point is that disturbed people do not "look disturbing" in reality, but for some reason we want their facial features to match their character. This might be the reason why surveys have also shown that beautiful/handsome people are judged to be more trustworthy/loyal/honest/socially responsible than more ordinary looking folk. The matter of physical appearance and behavioural expectation is indeed an interesting one.

  2. Beep Beep, there have been many studies about how people tend to generally be attracted to those with symmetrical facial features.

Bald headed dudes like me always get the short end of the stick too.

But the worst preconception out there is people missing a front tooth.
Even Einstein wouldn't be immune to being perceived as being a moron if he spoke to someone in person and was missing a front tooth or two.

ugh, right as I started on lunch. Thanks.

  5. I really wish the mainstream media wouldn't put this sicko's face up all over the front pages and on web sites and the evening news. I really do think that it will encourage other publicity hungry sickos to try copy cat crimes. I don't think there is anything wrong with discussion, but there is a line that the media is dangerously close to crossing when they make scum like this minor celebrities.

  6. We can only hope they let the inmates have a go at him when he visits the big house. Execution seems too kind a fate for him.

Criminals seem to lack a disturbing amount of empathy for the feelings of others. Most normal people would do everything they could to protect a young girl even to the point of losing their own lives.

    Is empathy instinctive or learned?

  7. "This sick basturd was apparently off his meds."

One of the hardest things mental health pros have to deal with, is making sure non-comitted patients stay on their medication. I had a friend who was diagnosed as paranoid-schizo our last year in college. He stopped taking his medication, dressed up in army fatigues and shot-up our college town, killing two people and wounding others. He carried a duffle bag with him, where police found boxes spare ammo and several boxes of condoms.

There are a lot of "ticking-bombs" walking around out there. I am really surprised this thing does not happen more often than it does.

  8. BEAJ: Have you checked the user profile for his blog?

The question was: "If you were a cannibal, what would you wear to dinner?"

His answer: "The skin of last night's main course."

I dunno 'bout anyone else, but I'm hearing the Twilight Zone theme song...

  9. Yes I saw it Chim.
Bad journalism on CNN all day though, they attributed the question to be his words, when in fact it was a random question by Blogger.
They didn't even report his answer on CNN, they just said "this was the most disturbing thing they've seen about him"

I wonder if Blogger realizes that this question might have pushed him over the edge.

  10. I don't have a television, so I can't watch the news broadcasts; but I'm not surprised that they jumped all over it.

The reason I thought of the Twilight Zone is because I know that the Blogger questions are random...it was just a little too seredipitous for me!

I don't think it was the question that pushed him. He had been blogging for three-and-a-half years. I think that might be a little too long between "push" and "deed."

  11. You can change the question anytime you want on the blog. Just curious how long that question was current on his blog. I doubt we will ever know, unless it becomes an issue in the trial.

No, this is right from the Silence of the Lambs movie.

  13. As a little interesting fact-I stopped by his blog shortly before Blogger deleted the comments-there were 647 comments about how much of a sick bastard he is. I wish you could have read them, they were actually pretty funny (the comments, not the dismembered girl).

    ReplyDelete
  14. I read some of them too. They would have been funny to me under different circumstances, but I don't remember laughing too much.
