I'm also a Jewish atheist. I describe myself as a secular Jew.

Regards.

I found this blog surfing.

A Jew in Minnesota? Wow. I like calling myself an Atheist Jew, it pisses more people off than just Secular Jew.

Is being Jewish like being Italian or Black? I have always been confused about it. Is it a religion or a culture that you could never NOT be....or what? For instance if you are black, you could never be anything else. But a religion you could just NOT believe anymore, hence, not even identify yourself with it. Help me out on this one.

By the way, I got that picture of my dog to work.

A Jew is a Jew by culture and/or religion. A person who is born with a Jewish mother is considered a Jew from the day he is born to the day he dies, no matter what he believes or doesn't believe.

Thank You! Very interesting. I am looking it up in my spare time. I always assumed it was just a religion embedded with so many customs and traditions that it seemed to be a culture, but wasn't really, when it came down to it.

Here is good link that pretty much explains it all: http://www.jewfaq.org/whoisjew.htm

Wow, although dizzying, it does clear it. Thanks for the link!

I have always told you that you are an agnostic and not an atheist. :)

9 out of 10 respected internet surveys call me an Atheist. They can't be wrong.

Interesting.

I'm 60% scientific.

40% reason-oriented.

Same x-axis position as you, but just above the agnostic/atheist borderline.

Yet I freely admit I'm agnostic, and you claim you're an atheist.

Just observations......
